Pioneer Malting began because as beer enthusiasts and home brewers, we saw an opportunity in the malting market to offer brewers a unique malt tailored to them. Crops grown in Western New York have a unique flavor that can’t be found anywhere else. As a smaller malt company, we can create a malt specifically customized to the needs of our brewers and distillers. Unique malts produce unique beers and spirits, a staple for our region. In addition, because we’re a local company, we can provide fresher malts than the commercial malt houses who have to ship their products across the country or overseas.
Pioneer Malting was founded by Adam Filippetti, his brother Paolo Filippetti and Andrew Suppo, all of whom were born and raised in Hilton, NY. Adam attended the Canadian Malting Barley Technical Center to refine and develop the malting styles that they wanted to employ at Pioneer. Adam and Paolo bring the agricultural expertise while Andy brings a strong business sense and large knowledge base regarding craft wine and spirits.
